Sunnymead Estate

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India

What to know before you go:

- A heritage cottage and one of the oldest in Shimla

- No TV in the rooms

- No room service

- The property offers only breakfast and dinner

About the property:

Sunnymead is a Heritage Cottage and is one of the older surviving residences of Shimla. It is also considered to be extraordinary in terms of architecture and decor. Its design is an adaptation from an English Architectural Book by R.A. Briggs (still present in the house), constructed with the traditional local “Dhajji” methodology. Opened to guests in 2011 to enable the property to pay for its upkeep and maintenance, Sunnymead is thus an attempt at conservation and not a business venture. The house continues to be "in its original state".  Sunnymead is in essence a family home that we would like to share with like-minded friends and family.

Central Shimla (including the Mall and the Ridge) and its extension all the way to the Vice Regal Lodge is largely pedestrianized and approximately a 3 kms long or brisk 45 minute walk. Guests can also chose to cut out the uphill climb by taking a cab from Sunnymead to the two-stage elevator or Lift, connecting The Mall with Cart Road and then easily walking back following Raaja Bhasin's book on the ten walks of Shimla.
